Check acceptance at every relevant level
Review origin requirements, carrier and mode acceptance, and destination import conditions. Permission at one stage does not establish permission at every other stage. A product allowed in your home may still be unsuitable for the proposed transport arrangement.
Prepare an item-specific question with a description, quantity, condition and relevant material or battery information. Ask the qualified representative before packing. Do not rename the item or hide it in a mixed household carton to avoid the acceptance review.
Keep liquor and dangerous materials out of the shipment
Safemax does not accept liquor or alcoholic beverages in these household shipments, including sealed bottles packed with personal belongings. Review the Safemax restricted-items policy before release. Destination allowances do not override the carrier’s own acceptance policy.
Declare questions involving fuels, gas cylinders, solvents, aerosols, fireworks or other potentially hazardous goods. Do not send spare fuel, disguise a liquid or improvise dangerous-goods preparation. IATA’s dangerous goods guidance explains that common household items can require regulated handling for air transport.
Review batteries and electrical equipment
Identify devices, removable batteries, power banks and battery-powered equipment in the inventory. Tell the provider about damage, faults or modifications. Do not assume that a device travelling as freight follows the same rules as an item in passenger baggage.
Ask for a qualified acceptance decision and appropriate manufacturer or specialist guidance where necessary. Do not remove, disconnect or repackage unfamiliar batteries yourself based on a generic moving checklist. A different transport mode is not automatic permission to ship an item that was declined.
Check food, plant, animal and outdoor items
Australia’s personal-effects preparation guidance identifies goods that may raise biosecurity concerns, including items associated with plants, animals or soil. Other destinations have their own conditions. Ask about the specific item rather than assuming that a used household possession is exempt.
Review food containers, garden tools, outdoor furniture, sporting equipment and natural-material souvenirs. Clean and dry accepted goods following the reviewed instructions, and declare relevant contents. Cleaning does not itself establish import permission.
Separate special categories from ordinary household cartons
| Category | What to do before packing |
|---|---|
| Alcohol and prohibited goods | Exclude items not accepted by the carrier |
| Batteries and chemicals | Request qualified item-specific review |
| Food and natural materials | Check destination import and biosecurity conditions |
| Medicines and regulated products | Seek the relevant authority’s current requirements |
| Vehicles, pets and commercial stock | Do not assume an ordinary personal-effects arrangement covers them |
| Valuables and essential documents | Keep under your control or arrange an expressly reviewed alternative |
This table identifies questions, not a complete legal classification. Review the actual inventory and current rules for the route.
Resolve uncertainties before the final list is signed
Remove declined items and update the inventory and package count. Keep any acceptance or declaration instruction with the relevant item record. Do not assume a packer spotting something on collection day replaces your responsibility to disclose it.
- Review the actual goods before packing.
- Check carrier and destination conditions separately.
- Exclude liquor and other prohibited items.
- Resolve batteries, biosecurity and special-category questions.
- Update the final inventory after changes.

Common questions
Can sealed liquor bottles travel with household goods?
Not under Safemax’s acceptance policy. Keep them out of the shipment, even if sealed.
Does passenger baggage permission cover freight?
Do not assume it. Confirm the rules for the actual cargo arrangement and destination.
Does cleaning guarantee an item can be imported?
No. Review the destination’s item-specific conditions and any declaration requirements.
Can I omit an uncertain item from the inventory?
No. Disclose it for review or remove it from the shipment; do not conceal contents.
