Packing: protection, materials and labels
Ask what packing work is included and which materials are appropriate for the declared goods. Identify fragile finishes, glass, loose components and items requiring additional review. Confirm who supplies cartons and how packages will be numbered. If some goods are owner-packed, list them separately and discuss suitability. Packing is more than wrapping an outward surface; the contents, vulnerabilities and intended handling journey should inform the preparation.
Dismantling: identify the specific items
List beds, tables or other furniture that may need to be taken apart. Ask whether the construction is suitable and who will keep the fittings. Confirm whether reassembly at the destination is included for those same items. Do not assume that all furniture can be dismantled or that specialist installation comes with general labour. Follow the furniture and appliance preparation guide for the questions to raise.
Loading: agree the handover point
Clarify whether the crew carries goods from inside the property or receives them at a ground-floor loading point. Describe floors, usable lifts, stairs and the distance to the vehicle. Confirm how pre-existing marks and package counts will be recorded. Ensure the carrying path can be used safely and in accordance with building instructions. Loading arrangements based on incomplete access information may need review when the actual route becomes clear.
Unloading: distinguish the gate from the room
Ask where goods will be placed at the destination and whether upper-floor carrying is included. Provide destination access details before dispatch. A delivery address alone does not explain a narrow lane, a distant parking position or a staircase. Arrange an authorised person to direct room placement if agreed. Consult doorstep delivery access to avoid leaving unloading responsibilities unresolved.
Unpacking and installation: avoid assumptions
Opening cartons, placing furniture, removing packing and arranging household contents are separate tasks. Confirm what is offered and what is excluded. Appliance restart, connection and installation should follow manufacturer instructions and be assigned to suitable professionals where needed. Discuss packaging removal with the provider and property manager rather than leaving materials in shared areas. Keep optional work clearly recorded, including any additional price and the person responsible.
Put the whole scope in one place
Use a task list with a responsible person for packing, dismantling, carrying, loading, transport, unloading, reassembly and specialist work. Include both access briefs and the approved inventory. Record changes before the team starts extra work. Explore loading and unloading and packing services, or request a combined moving quotation for the assistance you actually need.
