What Packers and Movers Won’t Carry: Restricted Items Checklist

A household carton is not an exception to a restricted-items policy. Check the actual contents, including small bottles, aerosols and valuable documents.

Before you get started

  • Safemax shipments must not include liquor or alcohol.
  • Keep valuables, essential documents and medicines you need with you.
  • Ask for review of batteries, liquids, chemicals and special goods before packing.

Check contents room by room

When people ask which items packers and movers cannot carry, they often think only of obviously dangerous goods. The more common preparation problem is a mixed household carton containing something that was never declared: a bottle from a cabinet, a leaking cleaning product or a valuable document placed between books.

Read the chosen provider’s policy before packing. Acceptance can depend on the exact item, transport mode, route and applicable law. This guide explains Safemax Express’s preparation approach; it is not permission to ship a regulated item or a universal policy for every moving company.

Liquor and alcohol: not accepted by Safemax Express

Do not include liquor or alcoholic beverages in a Safemax shipment. This includes sealed bottles, personal collections, beer, wine and spirits inside household cartons. A purchase bill, a small quantity or a description such as “kitchen items” does not override the non-acceptance policy.

Excise and prohibition rules differ by state and circumstances. Official examples include the Gujarat Prohibition Act and the Rajasthan Excise Act. Unlawful transport may expose the consignment and people involved to authority action. Do not assume a fixed nationwide penalty or a blanket exemption for personal belongings.

Fuel, gas and dangerous substances

Safemax does not accept fuel such as petrol, diesel or kerosene, filled gas/LPG cylinders, explosives, fireworks, toxic or corrosive substances, radioactive or infectious material and hazardous waste. Do not hide these inside equipment, furniture or a general household list.

For a vehicle or machine that needs preparation for a separately reviewed transport service, ask the team which safe and lawful conditions apply. Do not attempt unsafe fuel handling, gas disconnection or electrical work yourself merely to make an item “ready for pickup”. Use an appropriately qualified service where required.

Keep personal valuables outside ordinary cartons

Cash, jewellery, precious metals or stones, essential identification and irreplaceable documents should not be treated as ordinary household moving contents. Keep them securely with you, together with keys, booking records and medicines needed during the journey.

Sentimental or unusually valuable objects require an early conversation about suitability, packing, declared value and any cover. Do not assume the ordinary moving charge includes specialist handling or compensation based on personal sentimental value. Review the insurance questions before relying on an assurance of cover.

Items that need review rather than a guess

Item categoryWhat to do
Batteries and battery-powered equipmentDisclose the item and battery details for review before packing.
Paints, aerosols, liquids and chemicalsIdentify the product and quantity; do not assume household use makes it acceptable.
Food and temperature-sensitive goodsAsk whether the service can support the required conditions.
Fragile, antique or high-value goodsDiscuss suitability, packing, value and special conditions.
Vehicles, heavy machinery and oversized itemsArrange a separate review of handling, route and documents.

Prior review does not guarantee acceptance. Written agreement and any required permits or supporting documents are necessary for a service that can lawfully and operationally handle the goods.

Make the inventory specific enough to be useful

Describe what a package actually contains. “Household goods” may be a broad category, but it should not conceal restricted contents. Distinguish furniture, utensils, books, appliances and products requiring review. Tell the team if an item or quantity changes after the first quotation.

For business consignments, do not describe stock as personal belongings to avoid document requirements. Ask which invoices, permits or other declarations apply. Our document checklist helps you organise the enquiry without assuming every shipment has identical paperwork.

If you discover an uncertain item on moving day

Set it aside and contact the booking team before it is loaded. Keep it out of the accepted package list until its status is clear. Do not seal it in a carton and expect inspection at the destination to resolve the issue.

If prohibited or undeclared goods are discovered after handover, movement may need to be paused and lawful authority instructions followed. That can disrupt the wider shipment. Honest early disclosure is a better way to obtain a clear decision than concealing an item or relying on a verbal exception.

Use a final do-not-pack area

  • Separate liquor, gas, fuel and other prohibited contents from the moving inventory.
  • Keep documents, keys, personal valuables and travel essentials with you.
  • Identify batteries, aerosols, liquids and products needing review.
  • Remove leaking, unidentified or unsuitable containers.
  • Tell everyone helping you pack which items must stay out.
  • Keep the accepted inventory and package count available at handover.

Read the full Restricted Items policy and ask our team about uncertain contents before arranging collection. Combine this with the home preparation guide so the team can work from a clear, accurate inventory.

Common questions

Can I include sealed liquor bottles in household cartons?

Not in a Safemax Express shipment. The policy covers sealed bottles, personal collections, beer, wine and spirits, including inside mixed household packages.

Are all battery-powered devices prohibited?

Do not guess. Declare the specific device and battery details for review; acceptance depends on the service, item, route and applicable conditions.

Can the team accept a restricted item verbally on pickup day?

Do not rely on an informal exception. Ask the booking team for a proper review and written confirmation where acceptance is possible; no agreement can override the law.

Where should I keep valuables and important documents?

Keep personal valuables, essential originals, keys and the records needed during your move securely with you.

Plan your move with clarity.

Share your inventory, route, PIN codes and preferred date. Request a quotation for the services your move needs.
